The general function of the mouth is to play a role in the digestive system. The first step of digestion involves the mouth teeth. Note that the mouth is a collective whole which is made up of the teeth, Lips and tongue.

These substances are essential for a major function of a human being such as speech. The tongue which allows us to taste, also helps us to form words when we speak. The lips that line outside of the mouth both helps hold food is while we chew and pronounce words when we talk. The tongue strikes the teeth as certain sound are made.

Food enters the mouth and it immediately broken down into smaller pieces by our teeth. Do you know that the hardest substances in the body are the teeth? That is why teeth are necessary for chewing or mastication (the process, by which we tear, cut and grind food in preparation for swallowing). Chewing allows enzymes in the mouth to further digest food.

The teeth again help us to smile. A smile is the facial expression that most engages others with the help of the teeth. The teeth also provide structural support for the face muscles. The mouth also form a frown and other expression that show on your face.
